Nine years operating commercial-and-industrial solar and BESS in Vietnam — across SPUC, BECIS, and a Norfund-backed regional platform with an ~$80M renewable portfolio. Arcus brings that operating perspective to the wider C&I market.
Started in renewable energy in the UK in 2004, founding Ecosphere Renewables to develop early-stage solar projects through the FiT era. By the mid-2010s the centre of gravity for renewable deployment had shifted to Southeast Asia, and Vietnam was emerging as the region's most ambitious market for industrial solar.
Founded SPUC in 2017 as a joint venture with Dragon Capital — Vietnam's first dedicated commercial-and-industrial solar developer. Built the playbook for rooftop solar PPAs with foreign-invested manufacturers at a time when the regulatory framework was still being written. SPUC's model of long-term PPAs with Korean and Japanese factories became a template for the wider market.
When BECIS acquired SPUC, stayed on as Managing Director for Vietnam and Cambodia. Then moved into the CEO role at a Norfund and Climate Fund Managers-backed regional platform, building an ~$80M renewable portfolio across Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The mandate at that scale was simple: institutional-grade returns built on bankable assumptions.
Vietnam's C&I customers — hotels, factories, data centres — have three real options for solar and BESS today. Self-invest with capex from the balance sheet. Zero-capex through a long-term PPA with a developer. Or a hybrid debt-financed structure that sits in between. Each works for some customers and not others, depending on tenure, cash flow, balance sheet, tax position, and how the asset fits the broader business.
What customers rarely get is the comparison done properly — every option modelled on the same basis, with the same operating-grade assumptions, the same procurement pricing, the same regulatory base case. Arcus exists to bring all three options to every customer, run the numbers across each, and support the build, contract negotiation, and operation regardless of which structure is chosen.
The same modelling and procurement discipline that made $80M of renewable assets work for institutional investors — applied at the scale of a single decision, on the customer's side of the table.
